Once upon a time, a mother pig sent her three little pigs out into the world to seek their fortunes.
“Watch out for the wolf,” she warned before they left.
The eldest pig was the laziest. He quickly built a house out of straw. “Done! Time to play!”
The middle pig worked a little harder but still wanted to play quickly. He built a house out of sticks. “Good enough!”
The youngest pig was the most hardworking. He spent a long time carefully building a house of brick and stone. “It must be strong enough to keep the wolf away.”
One day, a big hungry wolf came prowling through the forest. He knocked on the door of the straw house.
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in!”
“Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!” cried the eldest pig.
“Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house in!” The wolf took a deep breath and blew - the straw house collapsed in an instant!
The eldest pig ran to his brother’s stick house. The wolf followed and blew that one down too!
The two pigs fled to their youngest brother’s brick house.
“Little pig, little pig, let me come in!”
“Not by the hair of our chinny chin chins!” the youngest pig called out firmly.
The wolf huffed and puffed again and again, but the brick house stood solid and firm.
Growing desperate, the wolf climbed up onto the roof and tried to sneak down through the chimney. But the youngest pig had been expecting this. He had a pot of boiling water ready in the fireplace.
The wolf tumbled in with a loud splash, leaped out howling, and ran away as fast as his legs could carry him. He never came back.
The three pigs hugged each other with relief. “Thank goodness we were together!”
After that, the eldest and middle pigs helped their youngest brother build strong brick houses for themselves too, and they all lived happily ever after.
Moral: Hard work and good preparation always lead to better results.
