Once upon a time, there was a boy named Fon who couldn’t sleep because it was raining.
The sound of the rain was too loud — like a drum on the roof, beating fast then slow.
His mother came to sit beside him and asked, “Can you hear it?”
“I can,” Fon said. “It’s so loud.”
“Try listening closely,” his mother said softly.
Fon closed his eyes and listened carefully.
The rain falling on the roof… tap, tap, tap. The rain falling into the water basin… plip, plip, plip. The rain falling on the ground… hush, hush, hush.
Three sounds blended together into a melody.
“Can you hear it now, Mom?” Fon opened his eyes and asked.
“I can,” his mother smiled. “The rain is singing us a song. The rain that falls every night comes from clouds that gather water from the sea, from rivers, from every dewdrop on every leaf in the world, and then it all falls together.”
“Together everywhere?”
“Everywhere it’s raining,” his mother said. “Every child in every country where it’s raining right now is hearing the very same lullaby you are.”
Fon closed his eyes again, listening to the rain’s melody.
He thought of all the other children around the world, lying and listening to the very same song.
That thought made him feel less alone, and before he knew it, he had drifted off to sleep along with the sound of the rain.
Listen to the rain… it’s singing you a song… close your eyes… sweet dreams…
Moral: The nature around us is full of beautiful music. When we stop and listen with a calm heart, even ordinary sounds can become a lovely melody. And the feeling of being part of this great big world can warm and soothe our hearts.
